History:
World Gaze Clips is a collection of short stories that are under a single title. The story that Yuuki is from is Lost After School. This story in particular focuses on the an honor student named Ayako Satou that has problems concerning domestic abuse and being bullied at school. One day, she meets another girl named Yuuki Arikawa after shoplifting from a convenience store and Yuuki sneakily makes off with Ayako's wallet. Ayako soon learns that Yuuki is from her class (the girl that sits behind her) and plans to catch her and get her wallet back. However, Yuuki ditches school halfway through the class and Ayako ends up finding her in a CD store. Ayako tells Yuuki to take responsibility for the inconvenience the theft caused, so Yuuki treats her to food in a live performance cafe and they have a conversation about grades in school. The next day, Ayako tries cutting class and goes back to the live performance cafe, finding Yuuki there also. Yuuki finds it strange that Ayako, an honor student, is cutting class and in this sort of place, but Ayako quickly explains that she realized that even without her, things will still be fine in school. While doing homework, Yuuki asks Ayako if she wants a 100 on her next test, and invites her to school on a Sunday. Ayako ends up going with her, but she still refuses to take the copy of the test due to how unfair that is to other students. It also goes to show that Yuuki is used to using the live performance cafe (it has no name) as to however she sees fit--including ordering the part-timer to get her water to shut him up mid-sentence and sleeping on the couch whenever she wants.
After seeing gum in Ayako's hair in the park, Yuuki gladly decides to cut her hair when asked to and asks her if she wants to go for a road trip to get away from everything for a while. They crash at the very same part-timer's house (he doesn't have a name) for Ayako to distract him by asking him if she could use his shower while Yuuki takes his car keys. The plan is successful and they take the car and drive around places until they run out of gas. They pull their car on the side of the road and they eventually get help from the circus performers that they had seen at the park (when Yuuki was cutting Ayako's hair)... what a coincidence. They drive them to a gas station to get gas for their car. Ayako finally gets the CD she's been looking for in a secondhand store nearby the gas station and Yuuki engages in minor philosophical discussions with the juggler. The conversation that follows implies that Yuuki has run away from home and doesn't have any intention to return. Ayako and Yuuki get back to the car and it's then when Ayako receives a phone call that her parent had died and she moved away to another city. Meanwhile, Yuuki stole the CD that Ayako bought in the secondhand store (the CD that she was looking for) and plays it while referring to it as a keepsake as some sort.
That, all the while, illustrates that the world didn't change and it goes on.
Appearance: THIS GIRL.
Personality:
Yuuki Arikawa is an easygoing girl that goes at her own pace. She's essentially a free spirit that doesn't seem heavily bound to anything. To show this, she often ditches class or sometimes skips school as a whole. Ayako questions her attendance, to which Yuuki says that she's fine. She doesn't intend to go back home and she often sleeps over at a live performance cafe, in which the part-timer reacts with, "you're here again?" as if he's used to the occurrence of Yuuki taking possession of the couch overnight. She also tends to sleep in strange places at whatever time she finds convenient such as the school rooftop, the live performance cafe, and the music store while listening to sample songs on her headphones. Yuuki also doesn't seem to plan very far ahead. The juggler asks Yuuki why they decided to drive away together. Her reply was, "Don't you find that a serious committee chairman--always worrying and still a developing beauty, is interesting to watch?" but then she handwaves it off to be a joke and adds, "Just kidding. I haven't thought about it much. It just happened somehow." Yuuki's general reaction to most things is that, "it just happened", cutting right to the chase and not really delving too much into it. Her motivations aren't as grand as one might think--it just happens. She doesn't have to think too hard on anything, because her quirkiness and the actions she commits come naturally to her. She even states that if the world would come to an end, she would continue living every day without really feeling anything--mostly because she has nothing to do. Yuuki just tends to go along with whatever is already out there and if there isn't, she creates the incentive for others to act or react upon. However, this is only when she is around people and doesn't feel lazy, because without people, there is no incentive to do anything for her.
This girl is also quite a trickster. She's the type of person that will take the time to drown your coffee in sugar when you leave to go to the bathroom. Yuuki also resorts to tricks more often than not in order to get what she wants. The entire story started because she stole Ayako's wallet and she wanted it back, eventually making her come back again and again due to stress at home because of how carefree Yuuki was. Speaking of stealing, Yuuki does this quite skillfully, even successfully using Ayako as a distraction to steal car keys from the part-timer and makes off with his car. Yuuki also has quite the street smarts, forming connections and having the skills that makes it easier to live by herself when she doesn't live at home. She ends up beating an entire team in basketball to get them to treat her food, using the live performance cafe as her default shelter without too much complaint, and she gets circus performers to help her out when she needs it. This does show her the potential to be reliable when it counts--and she certainly pulls through very well.
Yuuki is a fair person; she isn't really truly judgmental of others. She doesn't seem to mind people in general, really. Yuuki doesn't hate her surroundings at all, not minding whether she's alone or with others--she has stated in canon that she likes both equally. She also states that she is sentimental, but without a deeper meaning. She just does things because she can. Yuuki also believes that your own perspective is important--that you can only decide for yourself whether your worries are grand or minuscule or whether something is right or wrong.
Throughout the course of the series, she has never referred to anybody by their name. She calls Ayako, "the committee chairman". She also calls the part-timer by... "part-timer" (he only doesn't have a name because nobody actually addresses him by his name... which is unknown). The reason as to why she never addresses people by their names isn't stated in canon, but it is implied that she is quite distant, yet acquaintances on a comfortable level with most people. This is why even though she jumps quickly on the idea of going on a road trip with Ayako and that they were together for most of the series, she isn't all that devastated when Ayako moves to another city in the end. She doesn't show any form of sadness and merely smiles, leaving everything vague. It has also been implied in the manga that she also has the ability to somehow make the entire faculty in school fall asleep on a no-school day (not by magical means because magic doesn't exist here), making it look like Yuuki knows a lot more than she lets on. She basically plays the role of the mysterious girl well with a friendly personality.
Abilities:
Yuuki shows that she's very good at playing basketball, beating an entire team just to get them to treat her food. She also juggles well and is shown to have a very good sense of balance while doing so. She also shows to be capable of driving a moped and a car and often uses a skateboard to get around places. She's also very good at stealing things in a way that she usually goes unnoticed.Other: ---
